Like most websites, we use cookies to keep things running smoothly, provide customer support and improve our services to make borrowing even easier for you.
In fact, almost everything you do on the internet probably involves cookies in some way or another, so we thought we’d break down how they work on our site and answer some of the questions you might have.
1. What is a cookie? 🍪
Sadly lacking in chocolate chips of any kind, cookies are tiny files that websites use to remember things about you when you visit.
For example, let’s say you visit our site and tell us you want to stay logged in. Next time you visit us, the website will search your browser for cookies, find a note that says “I want to stay logged in” and then log you in from the moment you arrive on the site.
In a way, they’re a bit like your own personal town crier, just for our website. When you visit, they tell us: “Hear ye, hear ye! Dave’s back! Dave wants to stay logged in, might be interested in loan products and has set up a profile.”
2. How do you use cookies?
We use three types of cookies on our site, session cookies, persistent cookies and marketing cookies.
Session Cookies – These are temporary cookies, which only exist while you’re using the website (or more accurately, until you close the browser after accessing the website). These cookies help our website remember what you chose on the previous page so you’re not always re-entering information.
Persistent Cookies – These cookies remain on your device after you have visited our website. These cookies help us remember you when you come back to our website by assigning you a randomly generated number.
Marketing – While we don’t allow third parties to advertise on our website, we do promote ourselves on other websites and use cookies to let you know about what we think you’ll be interested in, based on your previous visits to our site.
These cookies help us understand what you want to see and help us limit the number of times you see our promotions, so we’re not always clogging up your newsfeed.
We also include links to social networks such as Facebook, and if you interact with this content, the social networks may use information about your interactions to target advertising to you on their websites.
3. Do cookies store personal information?
Nope. These cookies do not contain personal or sensitive information, and can not be used to identify you in any way.
4. Do you monitor your cookies?
Yep. We audit the types of cookies that are used on our website, but it is possible that the services we use may make changes to their cookie names and purposes. Some services, particularly social networks like Facebook and Twitter, change their cookies regularly. That means that while we always try to show you up-to-date information, we might not be able to reflect these changes in our policy straightaway.
5. Can I turn off or delete cookies?
Of course. Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can decline cookies if you want to and delete any cookies you’ve already accepted.
To turn off your cookies, check the settings on your browser and whatever device you’re using to visit the website. There should be an option to block and delete cookies there.
However, if you do block cookies, there is a chance you won’t be able to access some parts of our website or that some parts of the website will not function properly.
